ohio goes 3rd party!?

It's incredible - truly. Predominately black neighborhoods in Ohio have overwhelmingly endorsed 3rd party candidates. Wow. Who knew? I think Bev Harris knew.

Today's Article by Juan Gonzalez:
And now Daily News reporter Larry Cohler-Esses and I have uncovered some more unusual vote totals, this time in black neighborhoods of Cleveland. Those results are from the precinct-by-precinct tallies released by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, where Cleveland is located.

In the 4th Ward on Cleveland's East Side, for example, two fringe presidential candidates did surprisingly well.

In precinct 4F, located at Benedictine High School on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Kerry received 290 votes, Bush 21 and Michael Peroutka, candidate of the ultra-conservative anti-immigrant Constitutional Party, an amazing 215 votes!

That many black votes for Peroutka is about as likely as all those Jewish votes for Buchanan in Florida's Palm Beach County in 2000.

In precinct 4N, also at Benedictine High School, the tally was Kerry 318, Bush 21, and Libertarian Party candidate Michael Badnarik 163.

Back in 2000, the combined third-party votes in those two precincts - including the Nader vote - was 8. Cuyahoga, like most of Ohio's 88 counties, uses punch-card balloting.

"That's terrible, I can't believe it," said City Councilman Kenneth Johnson, who has represented the 4th Ward since 1980. "It's obviously a malfunction with the machines."

Rev. Jesse Jackson is making some Ohio waves:
Jackson is referring to the latest analysis of the Nov. 2 vote by a coalition of Ohio voting rights activists. In analyzing the still-unofficial results, the totals reveal that C. Ellen Connally, an African-American Democratic candidate from Cleveland for Ohio Chief Justice, received 257,000 more votes than Kerry. [Editor's note: Rev. Jackson was referring to Connally's margin of votes as a benchmark, not actual more votes. Jackson was referring to margin calculations instead of actual votes. In Butler County, Connally the Democrat received 59,532 running against Republican Chief Justice Moyer who received 66,625 votes. Connally received 5347 more votes than Kerry. For example, in Butler County, the difference between Connally and Moyers's votes was 7093. Bush received 106,735 votes and Kerry received 54,185 votes, with a difference of 52,550. Subtracting 7093 from 52,550 equals 45,457. Statistically the margin is significant only as a place to look for votes that could have been electronically shifted from Kerry to Bush. The 52,550 difference in Butler County between Bush and Kerry, when contrasted with the 7093 vote difference between Moyer and Connally provides a place to investigate and recount. The Connally race should be seen as a Democratic benchmark in Republican counties with the sample ballot, since she is endorsed by pro-choice and civil rights groups. While the vote totals for Bush and Kerry should be higher than for Connally and Moyer, the percentage by which they won should not be so different. Moyer wins over Connally with 52.8% eliminating minimal third party votes, Bush won over Kerry with 66%.

Columbus- A trio of activist lawyers armed with mysteriously wrong exit polls and hundreds of voter horror stories announced plans Friday to contest Ohio's presidential election as soon as the vote is official.

Their challenge could lead to widespread reconsideration of dozens of alleged election irregularities around the state - from reported computerized voting glitches to provisional-ballot mishaps to unusual incidents involving voter rolls, poll workers and machine technicians.

O aye. It looks like the Impeach Blair stoning is gathering no moss. The Brits aren't as forgiving about the misuse of public money. I wonder if they could come over for the holidays and do some needed work here after they finish?

It looks like the camp of multi-partisanship toward clean elections is further championed by Dennis Kucinich. Hurrah! He's onboard an effort to recount Ohio.

In lieu of suprisingly incompetent cabinet appointments, votes are being found in the trash and massive potential voter fraud is proven in a universal language - Math. So how did we get from stage 1 to stage 3 without stage 2? Soon they'll legislate the numeric system like they did with the debt hocus pocus. A 40 trillion dollar national debt means your newborn owes $140,000 and you owe $330,000. Mommy?

Aww shucks. No matter, you can always calm down with more FDA approved death drugs. You may be dead, but at least you won't feel inflamed.

You may always fall back on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness when all else fails.

what about that vote count?

After a severe media "bad blog bad blog" flogging it's difficult to imagine, but counts are continuing. We haven't wet ourselves in shame - go figure. In fact it has spawned furious email letters to the editor (in place of therapy). Recounts are happening in NH and possibly Ohio after certification. Senator Kerry made a post-concession broadcast appearance on a Boston Fox affiliate station today reminding the questioner that Ohio is still counting when asked about running in 2008.

I hear, read, touch, feel and discuss daily news of wacko vote tallies, wonky machine tabulations, and anti-voter suppression accounts. The deluge of scary new appointments, church melding stateward head butts, nukes, and blood from Fallujah are very distracting (important, horrifying but still distracting). We can't fix that before we fix this. Did we have this much news last year?

Hello!? It turns out that felons work at Diebold - Yikes! We citizens aren't used to hawking democracy, but we'll just have to get over it because we aren't used to totalitarianism, or fascism either.

Bev Harris from Black Box Voting is getting some fishy stone-walling behavior thrown her way while trying to perform and audit. Nadar and Badnarik are requesting funds to get this done. Blogs are belittled by a nasty name calling campaign (conspiracy theorist/tin foil hat/gossip mongering etc). Yawn - typical Roveville. "Sore loser?," grow up bully boy. He's good, but we're better. Don't despair, lose focus, quit or move on - it's hard, but we're worth it and we deserve a damn vote! Everyone should count - so let's freakin count, and account, for those votes okay? No one else is going to count them for us. Why is that revolutionary act?

Oh my gosh: UC Berkeley study press release that says Bush got 130k-260k of electronic "extra" Florida votes. Don't be afraid of the "f" word. Uhm... that's a 99.9% chance that it happened.

Refer questions to Jeff Fisher The letter formerly posted on his website alleged that recovering juvenilles in a detention center South of Miami were utilized to program kernels into vote counting software that could change the election results. Also notable is Fisher's representative stating that the reference to "South Miami" is a typo. However, Florida State Legislature reports the facility in South Miami.

Meet Democracy's boyfriend: the US Fourth Estate. Democracy exclaimed today, "It's a pity you couldn't perform, but fortunately I brought my own aid: The Blogger 2004."

I get the feeling that some election 2004 premature "debunk"ulators are feeling a little embarrassed that they called it finished before we had our turn? Now they'd like to pretend there's no problem - typical. It is a hard issue to address, there are many complicated theories and analyses to wade through. It isn't exactly romantic or exciting stuff. Democracy was heard pleading today, "Pretty please - can we take a little time to get it right?"

Democracy admitted she likes a good clean "quickie" just as everyone occasionally does; but, she explains that sometimes "things are more complicated and take a little more patience." She made no comment when asked about plans for a separation. She muttered (almost inaudibly) that couples therapy may loom on the horizon.

Democracy closed with a heart felt plea to her longtime lover Mr. Media Mainstream:
"We'll get along much better with mutual satisfaction. Don't be jealous I had to go outside our relationship to address my needs sweetheart. I didn't feel I had any other choice. I'm sorry I may have hurt you, but you hurt me too. I still love you. Come on over tonight - I'll show you mine if you show me yours..."

250,000,000 to one

These are the odds that the exit polls were wrong. A one in 250 million probability doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of happening - no matter how much you pray for it.

The task is to mentally roll back the clock and see if the present result is in some way marked or set apart from all the other alternatives. I haven't found any remedial alternatives to date that secures the overall issue. The current election result defies every explanation, poll, post facto excuse, voting block, trend and probability model offered and there are many. Dixiecrats, Swing Voters, The Base, Security Moms, Rural "Reds," Nascar Dads, Hispanic Americans, Moral Values, Christian Coalition... Besides echoing classic Rovian empty box debate strategy - none are plausible explanations to cover the election discrepancies; which, taken singly may be dismissed, but as a whole become a cumulative threat to democracy.

Add to this the fact that every excuse, "debunk" and explanation has been offered without hard data, FOIA requests, voting logs, or the benefit of open scrutiny. Conversely, every denial claiming the result is free and fair has some wonky circumstance, questionable partisan legislation, revised data, insecure technology, swirling accounts of disenfranchisement or borderline intervention controversy involved. It's "on message" muddy - but not unknowable.

Those who seek to dig for answers and heal what ails the system are met with canned responses, irrelevant personal attacks, intimidation, stonewalling, litigation and a slew of political mud. It makes me think we are on to something even more (perhaps not concerning the vote).

To date we haven't received a factual representation of our 2004 election. We've instead received: implausible deniability, media blitz, mantels, mandates, and a strange resistance to auditing or accountability. What were saying is - the issue isn't kosher enough to satisfy common sense. So bare with us o ye of the red based community - and we'll all pray for substantiated facts (or rather for our electorate to accept the facts).

Today in a heartening show of bravery and stellar journalism CNN announced plans to air Votergate and follow up with an hour of panel discussion with Bill Moyers, Amy Goodman, Keith Olbermann, and Walter Cronkite.

Meet The Press this week is to include Tim Russert interviews with Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and Jimmy Carter.

In a hopeful attempt to assuage doubts about e-voting Diebold, Sequoia, and ES&S announce a joint effort to release their programming source code files and election tabulation data to eminent scholars and the press next week. Bravo!

MoveOn.org announced plans for nationwide meetup for Help America Audit with live video feeds starring Moby and Eminem. The event is planned in conjunction with a fundraising and ad campaign to assist auditing the 2004 vote counts.

Greg Palast airs a new one hour show on ABC Sundays called The Broadcast - scheduling to be announced next week. Regular correspondents to include Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy.

...then I woke up in my jammies. It was still dark out.

Keith Olbermann did report of Cuyahoga County Ohio, "I'll repeat that: more votes than voters. 93,000 more votes than voters." I didn't dream that.

Maybe my HEROlbermann can get the truth out about the youth vote that exceeded expectations. False media reports that discourage the empowerment and recognition of youth voters only convinces me how paranoid politicos are of the youth voice/values during wartime (circa Vietnam). Fo shizzle.

Perhaps that's tomorrow night's dream...

homeland security blanket brings heat

Not a very warm or fuzzy binky. Washington Post reports Bush's Inauguration Day plan includes placing a contingent of 4,000 military troops in the civic streets of the United States. In the name of security we are breaking US law? Apparently the largest deployment of CIA agents on US soil in history is happening too - wow.

Why and to what result? I keep thinking about how much I adore the 3rd & 1st Constitutional Amendments... The "Homeland Security" blanket is getting too warm for me, and apparently it only insulates certain people like Bush and county election officials in Ohio.

Update:Provisional Ballots Disqualified for Stringent Date of Birth Requirement - After the Vote. Changing the rules after the game? Why?

I was confused by the different reports regarding the Ohio Provisional Ballot estimates. I decided to scratch my curious itch. The following is a compendium of Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell's incredible shrinking ballot numbers. I believe he missed his calling as an Illusionist (insert splayed hands crossing face here), OR it took the GOP some hours to get Kenneth "on message?..." At any rate, the "disappearing ballot trick" seems to have made any possibility of a mandatory recount VANISH, or maybe ALL these press sources should vanish instead?:

where are the purple states?

Have you ever heard of the divide and conquer strategy? It seems this 2004 election season we Dems and Progressives are too flagellate in asking what we did wrong. We didn't do anything wrong. We did most things right - organized, volunteered, advocated our values, voted and participated in a vibrant democracy. The problem is in assuming we have a vibrant democracy of, by and for the people. What we have is Socialist Republic of, by and for the corporations. Even our Supreme Court thinks the vote of the people shouldn't trump the choice of our legislative bodies. Er - Duh?

News Flash: Our voting system was hijacked again; though, not as ham-fisted as it was in 2000. They are getting BETTER at it - not worse, and now they'll be sure to legislate total voting process dominance. Get ready for a sweeping uniform countrywide voting reform courtesy of Diebold, ES&S, and Sequoia.

There are some exceptions to consider: we "blue" ignored 1/3 of the country, and basically failed our "heartland" who really needed our help... Hey, relax - we failed to focus on some crucial priorities, but it's not unrecoverable. If we could begin to practice what we preach towards all of the country instead of strategic bits of it, if repub and dem VOTES alike were fairly advocated for and counted, if there were an independent audit of our e-voting process, if we demand a critical MEDIA then the electoral map suddenly looks a lot different - PURPLE. We have been inundated by swathes of primary colors from corporate and independent news channels. Paid PR and political pundits have espoused a "deep division" campaign against us all, and they can't quit shouting or cashing in. There are scads of these "unprecedented" vote tallies and upsets - but, no one can seem to bring the sunshine in.

One fact I know is that the so-called "red states" were some of the first folks to dip into their ever dwindling pocketbooks to send cash to the victimized families of 9-11. I also saw a conservative Ohio farmer sitting on the back of his truck in dingy overalls tell a cameraman, "Aww shoot - don't ask me about our farm bill - our country folk are in a world of hurt over there in New York." It brought a tear to my eye - it should to yours too.

Admit and apologize that we Moral Urban Americans failed to usher Moral Middle America into a burgeoning laptop crazy world; while, their children were failing basic reading comprehension tests. How were they supposed to start programming HTML that way? Wake up! Christ, Allah, Jehovah, Mohammed, the Pope, the Collective Conscious, the Goddess et al were expecting us to throw at least a bone of understanding and some good faith acknowledgement wheatward. We didn't understand what Bush meant by "21st Century Jobs" because we already had them. But they knew what he meant. We were too busy dancing at rave parties in Malaysian manufactured cargo pants, developing carpal tunnel, working 60 hour weeks at start-up companies, and waiting for Terry McAuliffe to deliver the message I guess. Well, that party is definitely over. So let's all get on with securing the vote and advocating for independence from corporate media.

When any portion of our great purple electorate is isolated and ridiculed by Paris Hilton or Ann Coulter - repubs, dems, libs, progs... we all suffer and become fodder for false political prophets. We are prey to messages at low and confused moments so that any con artist who tells us we are chosen or special (so long as you vote or pay for them) can rule. That's when we must turn to one another and sort through the hard stuff together. We all must chose to speak to one another instead of letting media speak out to us - telling us who we are, how we feel about each other and what we mean. We must all repudiate circus pundits of extremity on both sides. A hint: If someone yells twice on your TV - turn it off!

The hard stuff ahead is the dialogue over real issues that are upon us. All the issues. We purple people from all political spectrums need to secure our fundamental democratic process - free fair elections, and an independent informative media. I don't hear either side addressing that honestly. Our Fourth Estate is becoming increasingly guilty of betraying us all in favor of their phony "inevitability" polls, and their own consolidation toward a defense contract profit agenda. When Chuck Hagel is counting his own votes it's "Danger Will Robinson!" Just think what will happen when Howard Dean and Ted Kennedy start counting their own...

What do the "blue state" libs get falsely accused of? Answer: Calling people "dumb" who don't agree with them. Now we know that ain't true! In fact the only people I ever heard call our fellow countrymen and women"stupid" were Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh speaking on behalf of liberals. Now that's just rude and mean for no reason. I should know - I am an accused "blue state" person; but, when I review my values, issues, and compassion I realize I am TOTALLY PURPLE - just like those nice people I met in Arizona and Wyoming some years ago. The reason I use environmentally sound products and keep recycling is because I care - not, because I am a free market hating commie (gee whiz - Goebbels anyone?). Bush & Co. don't obfuscate facts and control their message because they are God's instrument, or corporate welfare fascists - they do it because 1.) they can and 2.) it's really lucrative, and 3.) it makes then feel really powerful and 4.) to circumvent pesky laws, seal incriminating records and help cronies skirt legal "damages" without prosecution. Okay maybe it's all of the above?

Purple people wonder: Why is a member of our Supreme Court "hanging out" with Cheney before the court deliberates his case? Why is Bill Frist allowed to move medical legislation when he owns a big chunk of America's medical industry? How can James Baker be an honest broker of US Foreign policy regarding Iraqi debt when he brokers a pay off deal with Kuwait for the Carlysle Group? Why can't we investigate some Pentagon budget items? Why can't we run a free and fair election in just one predominately black precinct of Florida? Why can;t we audit suspicious elections? Why didn't one single senator sign for the Congressional Black Caucus members over the 2000 election? Why still lie about WMD and Al Qaeda? Abu Ghraib was "morally" disgusting! How can campaign operatives be in charge of counting votes? Purple people aren't as concerned with the burgeoning myth of an "education gap" as much as they agree on a HUGE GAPING credibility gap.

If Moby and Eminem can get along then the rest of the electorate can too by gosh.

Purple state people are lot more alike than they are different. Nobody talks about that... We know what works for some states doesn't work in others, but primarily we all require good health, democracy, education, a job, some security, and a belief in something bigger than ourselves. Heck we don't even have most of these basics yet!

Neither I nor my cabal of brave progressive pals have ever said a word of disparagement about "red state" folks. We adore our country and all of it's electorate. Right now we're really concerned for our military constituents. Just because we don't agree with the Bush Administration on basically every issue doesn't mean we don't like or respect our fellow Americans who do. More often I hear chastisement from whining media babies who keep coloring us with their crayons. Have you ever tried to get blue or red crayon out of your clothes? It's hell (not in the Swaggart sense). Our purple mountains majesty, amber grains and fruited plains are really swell and aren't serviced by the pollster's sweeping generalities trying to define our "voting block." I tell you I am CONVINCED we have a PURPLE country. We purple state folks are a MAJORITY of really nice, patriotic and common sense people. We all vote for different parties, but we are a majority.

I suppose it serves someone's purpose to push the division strategy. Urban, suburban, red, blue, metro, retro, guy, gal, single mom, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, agnostic, atheist. Have we polled the purple Christian Nascar civil union security teens? In the words of the infamous verbal attack hack Bill O'Reilly, "Shut Up!"

I really don't think we have a deeply divided country. It's a myth. It would be more honest to draw that Electoral Map with fabric: California can be paisley, Texas can be denim, Vermont is wool, Massachusetts can be khaki, Kentucky can be muslin, Oregon can be plaid, Washington is flannel, Louisiana is eyelet, New York is pinstripe, Oklahoma is chenille.
